The power of thoughts
“Everything starts with a thought”, my mentor said. “Your behaviour, your actions and the outcome; is all dependent on the quality of your thoughts”. I already know how devastating negative thinking can be. After being depressed for many years, I’ve managed to change my thinking pattern to a positive sentiment.
The words from my mentor gained extra weight when I realised I manifested certain results with directing my thoughts to the desired outcome. I was amazed how powerful thoughts can be. Then, I remembered a particular incident where my negative thinking manifested a negative outcome.
Last year I was invited to give a talk at the Creative Mornings chapter in Utrecht. It was titled “I’m not an entrepreneur, yet!”; and I prepared for months. But, I wasn’t confident. As a matter of fact, I actually felt worried. I imagined what could go wrong. There was a clear image in my head of how I spoke too fast, messed up my story; and, eventually choked up. I would stare into bright lights with a blank mind, not knowing how to proceed.
You know what?! That was exactly what happened. Literally… Thankfully, I managed to recover and finished my story, but I felt awful. I was utterly appalled that my vision came true.
Being mindful of my thoughts hasn’t only led to better results, but has also had a significant improvement of my self confidence too. As a side effect of this, more self confidence has led to a better quality of thoughts.
So, I have managed to completely change what had been my very own vicious circle, created by my previous mindset of negativity. This has now been replaced by what I can only call a “circle of positivity”. How about that?!
